I realise this isn’t much help for vraysoftbox but if you ever use VRayHDRI to load a map for a light, you can set the Alpha Source to ‘Intensity’ and this usually does the trick.

Same question was asked here . Even thought the suggestion here definitely works, as I wrote there i would use a simple Output Map with “alpha from intensity” checked. I try to stay away from the max composite map since it used to slow down renders (but it’s possible it isn’t like that anymore).

What I usually do when I map a light is put an Output Map on top and check Alpha from RGB Intensity. In fact I wish this was an option in VrayLight itself so I could skip the output map part. Regards, -Eugenio
