Vraylight type disc invray5 becomes vraylight type plane in vantage

Hi,
thx a ton for Vantage…Its a gift for me
But, it has some issues :frowning:

Every scene i want to use in vantage has always the same issue:

Vraylight (type disc) in vray5 becomes vraylight (type plane) in vantage.
Lens effects inVantage are very simple compare to vray ones.

Here is one example: CPU render in 3dsmax and vray5 update1 and Vantage render through Livelink

How can i setup lights and lens effects to get the same render?

Thx in advance for your answer

Hi

Disc lights are supported, as listed here: Chaos Vantage

However we do not have the VFB lens effects in Vantage. We only have a bloom effect (which is our own implementation). These lights will only look the same if you disable the effects both in V-Ray and in Vantage.

The light is still a disc, but the Bloom effect makes it look a bit more rectangular. You can disable it with the button in the top right corner.

We are going to add the ability to save EXR at some point. When we do, you should be able to load the EXR back into V-Ray’s VFB to apply V-Ray effects and color corrections to it.

Hi
thx for your reply.
Il a waiting for this new ability.

But i hope you’ll developp a “real” lens effects like in vray. It’s so usefull.

By the way, i discover that my issue only appear when i switch directly from vray to Vantage through Live-Link…It works well if i export and send the current vrscene to Vantage. The bug is smaller

Interesting… Could you post a comparison image - how different is it when imported through a vrscene file? It could be a bug in live link we didn’t know about.

What happens if you restart the live link ? The disc light uses a light texture to implement the disc shape and light textures are currently not updated correctly during a live link.

Can you send the scene for investigation ?

Thank you for the scene.

So, this is the scene in Vantage through the live link:

And this is the scene in Vantage when you open a .vrscene:

Is this correct ? And the other two images are the V-Ray for 3dMax renders ?

I am assuming the issue is with the live link update when you add a new disc light while the live link is running.
I am not seeing a problem when starting a live link on the already setup scene.
QA will also take a look just in case I am missing something.

However, I am not sure what you mean by The bug is smaller when you load a .vrscene ?

Actually, I was able to reproduce the issue under certain conditions with some help from QA.
I will investigate further. Thanks again for the scene.

Hi Vladimir,
Yes, that’s right

i was talking about “smaller issue” because i have also the regret that there is no lens effects in Vantage
Did you plane to include them in a few while ?

Vraylight (type disc) in vray5 becomes vraylight (type plane) in vantage.

What we figured out is that if you have “enable lights” unchecked and then load a .vrscene or start a live link, the disc lights will not load correctly, same for textured rectangle lights.
This is fixed in our internal builds and will be in the next patch or update.

I understand now, thanks for the clarification.

Did you plane to include them in a few while ?

We are considering it, but we don’t have exact plans, there is a lot of other stuff to do before that which we might decide is more urgent.
