I wish more improvements on the next VrayLightMtl, that it has the option to be treated as direct light or as GI, so we can get accurate shadows from vraylightmtl.
something like the optional ‘store with irradiance map’ tickbox in vraylight rollout.

I believe Vlado showed an example of a lightbulb with a VrayMtl appied to it. He surrounded the lightbulb with vraylights set to portal. Then it was able to illuminate the surrounding room properly.
I’ve used this method, however it seems to jack up rendering times. However, it would be nice if it could be built in.
Vlado is currently coding proper mesh based vraylights.
So you can select any object and turn it into a vraylight. So it will be a direct light like the current vraylights and not a GI based light like the vraylightmtl.

about the skylight portal, yes i’ve seen the thread… might help in certain situation, but I still find it quite unpractical (having to put 5 vraylight planes around the lightbulb…)
and cmiiw, if we’re using environment GI… that skylight portal trick would be totally useless, isn’t it?
