Vraylights Shadow Viewport Approximation

Is it possible to have a shadow approximation in the viewports generated from the direction of a light to it’s target? Perhaps a checkbox you can turn on and off?

It is a request which I made on this forum in which I invite you to take part as a user and why not as programmers of Vray ..

http://www.redway3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58

you can try this product on http://www.redway3d.com the futur of 3d I think

I dont think its that simple to do. Since it will require modifying max interface. There is an option in maya to display shadows which shows the cast shadows, but they are not soft shadows and the performance becomes terribly slow…
we’r not there yet.

Test Redviewer guy, you will not be disappointed !

PS: I’ve not any stock options of this company, it’s just which it’s the software I wait for a long time .

I am impatient that it becomes totally compatible with Vray ! 8)
I repeat that you can make share of your waiting on their forum so that that comes more quickly (just one “I want this” can be enough )
and … take a part to the future :!:

Yeah - probably not that simple otherwise it would ship with default Max lights. But how about even some different colored lines (such as a direct light’s width line) that can show you a rough idea as to where a shadow may cross? Maybe it can be a parametric shape that appears with transparency applied but is unrenderable?

There was a maxscript by Bobo that does just that. Maybe you can find it somewhere.

Best regards,
Vlado
