We are regularly using the VraySky mapped into a VrayDomeLight. After updating to 7.4 from 7.1 we realized that the sky texture in a domelight now renders completly black, as soon as the sun is below the horizon.
this wasn’t the case in previous versions.
Does your camera have physical exposure? If so, you may need to adjust the camera exposure settings to compensate for the darkening.
Otherwise, I tested this cameraless (persp), and it gets dark gradually (pitch black around -10).
hi alex,
we checked the camera exposure settings and also tested it with a default maya cam. it has nothing to do with that.
it only happens when you plug the vray sky texture in a domelight texture slot. useing it in the rendersetting environment override slot works as expected. see attached video
Thanks for the explanation. The issue is reproducible, and it seems to be V-Ray for Maya-specific (it doesn’t happen in V-Ray for 3ds Max). Logged (VMAYA-14054) for dev investigation.
Not sure if there’s another workaround except making the VRayDome invisible and using the VRaySky in the Environment overrides instead.
okay, thanks for checking.
