Hello, I would like to see an addition to the vraymesh format, to also have a vrayStandin object. Almost like the aiStandin for Arnold. It’s quite a pain at the moment when you have characters that has displacements and you can’t export them as a vraymesh to be used in shots. Since a vraymesh only …

Actually, this is already in the works and nearly finished; Andrey needed this for V-Ray for Blender so he coded a VRayScene node that can read a .vrscene file and potentially instance it around the scene. Once the plugin is done, it should be fairly easy to port it to Maya. Best regards, Vlado

I am so glad you guys have Andrey on board, it’s great for many reasons!!

Btw here is a test image that Andrey did, where a .vrscene file with a Cornell box is instanced a few times. Best regards, Vlado [vrayscene_intances.png]

+100 from my side! Would be a super nice feature.

very cool … looking forward to it!

Having not used Arnold and just looking at the manual what is a standin? Is it like vrmesh, but also a container for textures and shaders, lights etc?

It is a complete scene, with geometry (including displacements, subdivisions etc), textures, materials, lights etc, which is then treated as a packaged object that you can instance around in the scene. Best regards, Vlado

max too please!!! sounds awesome.
