You can find the average color of an image in Photoshop by going Filter → Blur → Average.
I did not know that.

Or just configure the sample tool to sample more then 1 point so it will look at surounding points giving u an avarege… - photoshop btw…
my initial goal was to find a way to get the overall hue of part, or all of, an image. I was thinking along the lines of, the old trick of, poking a hole in a piece of paper to find value in a photo. If I like a photo, or rendering, I can crop parts and find its hue. I like sunsets, and if I find a photo I like I can find out how orange one side of the image is, and how blue the other side is… I hope this makes sense.
For that kind of specific sampling the blur/average on selections of a shot, or the enlarged sample size technique, will do the job more precisely for you, and faster. I like the various complementary shades that site gives you though, kinda handy for other stuff.
