what do you use to export H.264?

Hi all

well the title says it. How and what do you use to export to H.264 taking into account the gamma shift issue that H.264 has?

The only video converting software i’ve found to be incredibly consistent and reliable.

Export uncompressed avi from whatever, send it through that.

Looks good, but doesn’t AVI files have a 2GB limit?

Never heard of that - I had a 19gb avi from an old project that I sent through fine.

I’ve been using SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.net/SUPER.html) to do all of my compression. I usually save uncompressed quicktimes and output h264 with no problem in the gammas. It’s free :).

I haven’t tried AVS for comparison though.

i use adobe media encoder…comes with CS4.

Hmmm I get a very clear difference in colour between my source file and the file that super outputs. Basically I get the same directly from combustion so superc didn’t work for me.

Not sure what the problem is then-it works just fine for me. Can you post a screenshot of the super settings?

I already uninstalled it. Anyway I can’t see how any of the settings can have such a drastic effect on the colours. I used everything on default for H264. Also tried clicking on H264 and tried the 3 different settings in there. Same colour issue no matter what.

I still get major colour difference, but it is not as much as the other options mentioned so far. This software seems best so far and also makes smallest files.

Have you tried this trick yet? I think somebody may have linked to a similar solution earlier on…

Also, look at the very bottom of the user comments. There is another work around suggested using a small tiff file. I haven’t tried it yet, but sounds promising.

Well it seems what I want cannot be done. No use tap dancing around this any longer. I geuss I will just have to purchase QT Pro :frowning:

I find the same issue exists even with Quicktime Pro. My only solution was to render Quicktimes with no compression and then export from either quicktime or Sorenson Squeeze as H.264.

@ Morne: This may be why i have no gamma problem using SUPER to make my conversions… I usually use render an uncompresssed quicktime out of AE and convert it. I’ve never tried it from an AVI.

Yes that is what I used. An uncompressed QT from combustion. Into SuperC, but no go:(

News to me.

It works for us perfectly, where other video converting software has failed and repeatedly been a pain to work with. 2 comments that stood out dont even apply to us either, ours also works with vista and the output works in itunes.
Fickle software, I guess just try the demo out first.
