What you think of new fR s-2 ? In Maya.

A friend of mine just finished testing this “thing”. He sent me some information from help file…

He said it’s pretty stable, fast and the first commercial ready 3rd party Maya render engine, from the “magnificent 3” (chaos/cebas/splutterfish). Also he sent me obj file, made from one of the scenes cebas included in package  Want to test it . . . just in case VRay is better

cebas tried to make finalRender Stage-2 as integrated into Maya as possible. However, due to the nature of Maya there are several things that can not be easily accessed or implemented in Maya. Find below a short summary of the key things you might want to watch out for.

With finalRender Stage-2, only one camera can be rendered at the same time.

Nurbs Surface translation does not support Fix Texture Wrap.

Displacement Map attributes are not used. New displacement controls are available in the finalRender frame.

AreaLight is rendered in a completely different way. finalRender uses a true area light and the intensity is not dependent on the light scale as it is in Maya.

VolumeLight is not supported.

Show Batch Render doesn’t show the current rendering frame.

Hardware particles are rendered but they have a different size and look. More attributes have been added to tune them.

Find below a list of procedural textures that render slightly different:

cloud

leather

granit

rock

marble

oceanShader

Find below a Matrix of things that do not get translated by finalRender Stage-2:

so where is this obj? can someone convert to a max file and post?

Camera is not calibrated 1:1. So
My friend will render it more accurately. HDR image is included.

Image below is from fR s-2.

Material - kinda of transparent thing, phong shading… Will look into it. Mabe he will make a glass OR I will export our famous test scene to Maya

it says ‘image planes’ are not supported. What does that mean?

why dont i see shadows?

I don’t get the point … Paul, what do you want to start here?

Posting a WIP rendering of a different system/renderer and now you want ppl to waste energy in a thing which really really makes no sense.

Does your friend have a maya/fR license and is he not able to read the manual or is it a usual toydownload from the internet???

imo that render doesnt look too hot. LoL

thats what i was saying. i played with the scene (using a proper hdri since the one supplied didnt seem good enough to use) and i got a shadow under the legs. why doesnt his render have shadows

Hi,

no problem here … at last we are all only kids.. at last i am..

so showing your friends another toy only to talk about is all right isnt it…

of course..

it looks daaaaaaamnnn coool..

Tom

I just wanted to take this moment to interject, that its the artist, not the tool. LOL

aaaaaahahahhahahhaa

btw, i just read the list, seems like so much in unsupported, whats the point of using it?

Heh :stuck_out_tongue:
Just wanted to show smth, cebas going to release for max. Ppl are free to do whatever they wanted to
BTW - it’s an offtop’ part of the forum, so  Hehehe
Just curious what cebas can do…

Dschaga - licensed. Cebas put this “quality” scene in their package. Maybe for ppl, that are new to fR or whatever - now I’m trying to get my friend tested our test-scene inside Maya. With fR. Just curious. Offtopin’, as usually

there’s no shadows as per the standard fR GI setup.
Somewhat similar to the IRmap, but a lot bitchier to make work to pick up details.
The trick used here is a VERY LOW rez irmap.
1.05 minutes, sure, with “gi caustics” off a sphere.
And no contact picked between legs and floor.
Same , old, fR imo.

Lele

lets say that in that image, you can argue that the color bleed on the ground is gi bleed not caustics…here how the caustics should look.

It’s not just a simple bleed, as it bleeds not directly under the surface. It’s more like in your example, but more blurrrred

its strange they mention about this, because i remember that stage 0 had refractive caustics. Whats the big deal?

actually i have overexaggerated the caustics by increasing their multiplier to 3. Here is maxwell version, you can see its very unpronounced. Imo this is a bad example to demonstrate such effect.
