Whatever happened to the idea of a "Universal License"?

There was a thread a while back talking about the possibility of a “Universal License”, e.g., with a single V-Ray License, you could use it with whatever 3D platform you would like. For example, I could use that license with 3ds Max, and also with, say, Sketchup -- but not concurrently. Is that still a possibility?

It’s in the works, but I’m not sure when it will be available.
