For some reason, they removed the ability to add your own background images via the Horizons folder X/
Hello @hopav , the folder has been moved to Encsape_Installation_Folder\RendererHost\Data\Horizons\ in the newer versions.
Yes, but unfortunately now there is no support for PNG format for backgrounds, only unconverted KTX2 and you can’t add your usual background images. And they are displayed incorrectly through skybox. And it’s very sad
If the images are not displayed correctly through Skybox, then either there is a problem from our side or the images themselves. I find it weird that they were loaded correctly when placed in the Horizons folder; I can’t think of something from the top of my head.
In this case I encourage you to open a support ticket so that the issue gets resolved through the support processes. If this is an issue from our side, then it will be scheduled to be resolved by the dev team.
After digging a bit more, I finally have an answer.
While these types of skyboxes can be handled internally, unfortunately we never had official support of using them through this method of loading them from the installation folder; it just worked up until now. For custom skyboxes we are supporting the currently main formats and projections which are explained here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/ESKETCHUP/Skybox+as+Background
We are sorry for any inconvenience this change will cause you. You could browse through our list of resources and we hope you can find something that fits your needs: https://www.chaos.com/enscape/helpful-resources
Thank you for your reply. I think you should consider having users add background images directly to the dropdown menu list. Or at least keep the old method of saving them to a folder. It’s just very convenient and quick to use familiar and trusted background images without wasting time searching for and attaching them via skybox, often with unpredictable results.
Yes I see your point. I forwarded it internally in case it is re-introduced.
@hopav I want to provide an update for this and the functionality has been reintroduced for convenience’s sake. It will be available to test in the next preview version which will probably be released on Wednesday July 2nd.
The folder has still been moved to: Encsape_Installation_Folder\RendererHost\Data\Horizons\
