Hello everybody !
I was looking everywhere, but couldn’t find.
Can someone help me out and tell me where I could find green vine plants as 3d model like you can see on this image ?
thx for every little help,

I think this is just what your after.
wow..
thank you DaForce, that’s pretty cool…
appreciate that,
bernhard ![]()
hmmm…
well, I’ve tried it, and the software looks pretty easy.
but after importing I’ve treid to import the mesh and mats into 3dsmax…
for some reason, it takes years…
do you have any experience with that tool ?
thx a lot,
bernhard
Yeah I have used it a few times.
I have seen reports of it being slow. And seems closing and reopening fixes it.
oh wait.. importing in max is slow..mmm well that depends on how much geometry you are importing.
How long is years?
If there is LOTS of ivy. It may take a few minutes.
I was thinking of trying this to. I have some trellissississ…Or is that trelli? ![]()
But I was thinking of using a plane and opacity maps
Use this, will look sweet :).
Just be sure to turn of filtering for your opacity maps so the render isnt super slow.
hmm..
well, I let my copoter run over the night, and I have now the plant in my max scene file:
 lol: close to 1 Million Polygons…
so I can’t really use it for my scene file… hmm, is there any way to lower the polys ?
thx,
bernhard
You could model a couple of leafs for randomizz and use a script such as : http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/advanced-painter to paint leafs onto your model.
Ivy is cool my Very time consuming
Hmmmm…Just tried it and I drew 12 simples boxes to represent my trellis top…then exported to obj and imported into the program…I cant see the geometry? And when I import a simple vine, there are no materials…Do I have to make my own multi object material?
triangulation
Eric, I had the samae issue, I could fnd out, that you need to export with triangulation so you will see the mesh in 3dsmax…
bernhard:
1 MILLION!!
WOW
Its pretty low poly as it is.
Eric:
Yeah you gotta apply the material yourself I believe.
Just pick the material from it using the eye dropped in the material editor and change the materials to vray and choose the appropriate (included) textures. Dont forget to turn off filtering for the textures.
@DaForce:
yes, l941.596 polys - look here…
@pixelstudio:
hmm, I couldn’t really see and understand what the plugin from scriptspot does… are there any examples to see, or any tutorials showing me that script in action ?
DOH…So do I have to pick the leaves and branches separatly? Which materials id is the branch and leaves, etc.
Thanx
bernhard:
oh wow… haha
Play with the settings in the program to lower the poly count and lessen the leaf count I guess.
Eric:
Nah mate not quite, “pick” any leaf or branch and it gets the multi/subobject material.. when you just change it as I mentioned. And it should just update in the viewport.
If you need to re-apply the multi/sub just select all the vine and leaves and apply it.
hmm..
okay, i’ve used the standard settings, and the vine was comming now with about 350.000 polys… it’s sill to much, hmmm …
also, here is a quick testrender with the standard multi material..
you can see all the leafs are plates, and the texture isn’t right…
shouldn’t that be right textured after exporting ?
I mean, there should be the opacity active, or ?
yeah you need to copy the diffuse PNG into the opacity slot, disable filtering. And set alpha source to image alpha. may as well set mono channel output to alpha as well.
hmmm
now I am really confused.. if I put the .png image into the difuse and the opacity channel, it will not be transparent. I’ve also unchecked Filter maps, and the alpha source is set to image.
here is a quick scene file, testing…
http://www.bernhardrieder.com/ask/vine.max
here is the used .png map:
hmm…
ahaa..
okay, I’ve used now the transparent jpg maps and it works fine… ![]()
Should have been abit more clear on that part.
You need to do this for it to work.
The PNG already has the proper alpha in it.
So in the scene you gave me, you need to turn filtering off, set mono channel output to alpha and set alpha source to image alpha.
then it works just fine.
