need advice for new configuration I plan :
1. i9 9980xe / 18 cores
2. Amd 2990 / 32 cores
in both cases will be 64GB RAM / 521GB Samsung Pro M2 SSD / 2080 VGA / 1300w PSU / water cooling
Main concern regarding stability on AMD Thread Ripper 2990 - is there any issues ?
3ds max 2019.3 / Vray Next 1.1
will AMD be faster in CPU rendering ? or sam ase Intel ?

The AMD 2990wx will be quite a bit faster in rendering. We are talking about 32 cores vs 18 cores, there’s just no contest. If you check the Vray benchmark results page you’ll see that the 2990wx finishes in 27 sec. on average while the 9980xe finishes in ~36 sec. on average which makes the 2990wx ~33% faster in rendering.
As far as stability goes, I’ll talk from experience since I have the 1st gen Threadripper - the 16-core 1950x. I’ve had zero stability problems so far after more than an year of usage. My colleague says the same. He also has the 1950x.
Another plus for going with the AMD system is that you will be able to change your CPU with the new Threadripper when it comes out without needing to change your motherboard which is a huge plus since these HEDT motherboards are not exactly cheap. Intel are known for having to change your motherboard when they release a new CPU.
