which VR headset to buy

Hi,
I’d like to try virtual tours with a VR headset and would like to know which headset is best for me. Has anyone tried it? How does it feel? Is it very immersive?
I was thinking about the VR Meta Quest 3 but tell me if there is a more suitable model

thanks

@visualtracing Hi! You would have the most convenient experience using a Meta Quest headset, the Meta Quest 3 is the latest flagship and the main one we use for internal testing so you should have great experience with it.

We also have the feature to send the Virtual Tour link directly to your Meta Quest Headset via your Meta Account linked to the Headset. Alternatively you can send the link via scanning a QR Code when you share the Virtual Tour.
Using Panoramas in Virtual Reality can be very immersive for users, especially if you render stereoscopic panoramas which simulate 3D and hence convey the project scale very well. I encourage you to try it! Let me know if you run into any issues.

hi @vasil_garbev !
Very good, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. I was thinking about creating stereoscopic virtual tours. Any suggestions? I was thinking about rendering in 8K with a 6.3cm eye-point.
I didn’t understand one thing. If I create a virtual tour with stereoscopic function, I had read that the output is 1:1 instead of 2:1. However, in this case, on cloud collaboration it only opens the image. Since I don’t have the viewer yet, I don’t know if it’s a VR-only format.

Hi,

I just tried Meta Quest 3 and I’m trying it in a bedroom. It just seems gigantic. It’s not true to size. Is there a way to adjust the size? Do you have the same perception?

I’d like to know if there’s a way to prevent virtual tours from looking huge. If so, they’d be unusable. I’d like to know if this has happened to you too.

@visualtracing Hi!

A few pointers - non-stereoscopic panoramas do tend to look odd and pretty much huge, you can test other tools that have VR support for standard panoramas and it always looks odd when both eyes are seeing the exact same image. In my mind it kind of looks both huge or as if I am rather small inside it.

When you use stereoscopic panoramas - the 3D effect brings scale and things start looking normal as your eyes see different images simulating the distance between the eyes.

Chaos Cloud does support both normal and stereo panoramas. The only catch is - we have a simple detector for panorama images, but it only works for 2:1 panoramas. as you mentioned stereoscopic panoramas are 1:1, so we don’t automatically flag them as such.
All you need to do is open the stereo panorama - go to Edit → Settings and switch on panorama mode. (Check the attached screenshot) For now you have to enable panorama mode for each stereo panorama manually, but we will work to improve that flow in the future.

Now if you test a virtual tour with stereo panoramas in your Meta Quest 3, it should look much more convincing :))

Hope this helps

It’s strange but even when it’s active I see the panorama divided in 2, that is, everything rotates but it’s still divided in half… and yet I have the same type of view as you
Could you share a stereoscopic tour you did?

Sure,

Here is one we use for Demos - https://cloud.chaos.com/collaboration/n/GAi9o59yemEE9awtgjvJV4/present?t=vrt

You can test that in your VR headset. I have also tested it on Meta Quest 3 at home and it works great!

I did it  , but I was wrong because I was using 2:1 stereo instead of 1:1.
Now I wanted to understand the maximum quality I could achieve, so I’m trying to render in 8K to see if I can achieve more clarity. Regarding the stereo settings, I set it to 6.3 cm.

Hi @vasil_garbev ,

I created a virtual tour rendering in 8K and noticed that the quality isn’t comparable (logically) to viewing on a monitor, the image isn’t very stable either, it wobbles a little.
I was wondering if there are any standalone viewers that offer even better performance. Do you happen to know of any models? The alternative, I think, is to use a headset connected to the PC via cable (4K per eye).

Hi vasil_garbev,

I was thinking of buying the Apple Vision Pro headset, have you done any tests with this model?
