See Title. Our firm has a load of “floating” SketchUp licenses from before they moved to named users. Sketchup hasn’t meaningfully updated their software in 8 years, and cost of upgrading all users to named licenses isn’t something we’re willing to do.
We’ve been paying for and using Enscape with Sketchup 2021 without issue up until the 4.7 license shenanigans from Chaos Group. Up through 4.6 Chaos Group’s install include the .dll’s for Sketchup and they worked fine, however 4.12 has removed them, so Sketchup cannot see or launch Enscape (oddly enough Enscape detects sketchup and requires you to shut it down if you’re installing it).
The question is why did Chaos group remove these .dll’s? Customers are still using them, and the tech dept has to be next to nothing to update the plugins. If we can’t run Enscape on 2021, we’ll look at fully moving our firm over to Twinmotion permanently, as that is available at no cost to all of our users.
I understand that it is no longer “officially” supported, but there is no issues with running old sketchup files in Enscape, outside of Chaos group unilaterally nerfing it. It’s not holding the software back in any way, and it’s locking users out and rendering the software moot.
Will Chaos Group bring legacy plugins back in future releases?

As announced with the 4.4 release, we will remove older host versions within three months of adding support for a new one. This policy was applied in 4.9, three months after we released support for Sketchup 2025. When we add support for Sketchup 2026 in the coming weeks, we will drop support for Sketchup 2023 and remove it from our installer after 3 months.
This change allows us to streamline development, improve code quality, and focus on the latest Sketchup releases. We specifically chose the last 3 versions of Sketchup in accordance with Sketchup’s own policy of support. Since Enscape is a plugin for SketchUp, we can only support what they actively support.
We understand that upgrading can be challenging, but maintaining compatibility with unsupported SketchUp versions limits our ability to focus on improving Enscape for current platforms. For that reason, we don’t plan to reintroduce legacy plug-ins or DLLs in future releases. If you’d like to continue using Enscape with an older SketchUp version, previous Enscape releases remain available for download through my.chaos.com.
