Hi,
first, congrats for your efforts in developing this great piece of software.
Yet some things still borthers me, like this one :
I always got clamped smoke opacity at render time, very frustrating when your final render is worst than the gpu preview…
Until I discovered this hidden maxscript parameter, $.skiptransp, set at 0.001 by default, which clamp the transparancy at render time.
Why is it hidden ?
I think it could help to expose it in the ui, helping users not getting headaches and wondering “why my render looks so different !!!”
Thanks
PS : I’ve posted a copy in the wrong section (beta), can you pleae delete it ? Thanks
Hey again, copying my message from the beta forum here as well:
It’s very important that we understand the circumstances where you get clamped opacity. With most scenes we’ve seen here the defaults for skiptransp and stoptransp (0.001 and 0.999) work fine, so we’ve hidden them from the interface in order not to scare people
However, if this happens to you too often, we have to think about bringing them back, but we must make sure it’s not a different issue that gets worked around by changing skiptransp. Would it be possible to share images or scenes where you have such issues?
Thanks!
Hi Svetlin,
Thank you for your answer.
I fully understand, I can send you a scene on friday.
I usually work on subtle frosted smoke effects or low density ones.
I hope it’ll help you.
See you on friday !
Hey, got it - pretty cool results with so low resolution btw!
Going to add the option to the Opacity rollout in tomorrow’s nightly
