why is this forum so dead?

hello,

is it me or does anyone else think this forum seems dead…

probably a bunch of starving artists… or they are all over on the Mental Ray forums :?P

dont get me wrong…i dont mean it in a bad way…its just that this forum used to be mega busy…few days off iand i had to reserve 2 hours to browse all the threads i ve missed…and now…its just soooo quiet…weird

I’ve had the same thought for couple of months. Some sections dont get any new threads for couple of days

I’d imagine there are a lot of people like me who read daily, but rarely post because most of the time the answers to my questions are a quick forum search away. I’m sure it’ll ramp up again when VRay 2.0 comes

I’d say it’s a rather subjective feeling; looking at the forum statistics, the user activity (new posts/threads and user visits) is pretty much the same as the previous months/years, in fact slightly bigger. There are large spikes around each new release

Best regards,
Vlado

I’d say that any forum that is related to the construction industry is down these days. Look around at all the Architect offices that are gone, developers that have disappeared, etc. It’s just the times we live in.

This is what I think too. At least that is my reality. Since 2008 and the real estate market crash work slowed down immensely. Things are still slow. There still appears to be no job recovery, the dollar keeps dropping, nations are starting a currency war… I’d like to go on a long vacation until things get sorted… it will probably take a few more years.

hey that chart is not looking nice :-/

Was my impression as well, taht this forum was quiet. (The drop on this graph looks a little scary…)

From the forum statistics page:

For the whole September:
New threads:
2008: 325
2009: 340
2010: 511

New posts:
2009: 2552
2008: 1926
2010: 3418

For week 40 (start of October):
New threads:
2008: 64
2009: 82
2010: 83

New posts:
2008: 499
2009: 486
2010: 480

So, regardless of what it looks like, overall the numbers are pretty close to last year’s, for the other months as well (there are more posts in September this year because of the V-Ray 2.0 announcement).

These are counts for all the forums (V-Ray for 3ds Max, V-Ray for Maya, V-Ray RT, Phoenix etc).

Best regards,
Vlado

Also keep in mind that by default, the forum does not show posts older than a certain number of days. You can adjust the trim period in your user preferences.

Best regards,
Vlado

maybe there’s less general chat in take 5 these days?
less way off topic stuff for sure
- that graph : better sell my million dollar stock holding ahaha

Maybe it’s just the “Take 5/Off topic” that feels that way. I still see many posts in the other threads.

Start buying physical gold and forget about paper money

When it comes to renders that get posted, maybe we need a WIP-section for all sorts of renders that don’t have to be taken so seriously? :stuck_out_tongue: For instance I do a lot of rendering on my free time with no purpose really, and somehow the Image uploads seems too “finished” for images like that so a lot of stuff doesn’t get posted :stuck_out_tongue: Also, check out for example Maxwell and Fryrender forums.. and I’m mostly speaking about their gallery sections. I think they are way more quiet than ours..

to vlado : did you receive my email ? coz your postbox here in forum is full

Thats strange.. i was thinking exactly the same thing. I thought it was because everyone was so busy…

One thing I notice as some one that did Arch Viz before and does not do it now (In Games) is that perhaps because of the slow down in aRCH vIZ business and lack of CAD guys making the Transition to Max and VRAY as a result that things have gotten quieter on the Max side and maybe busier on the Maya and FX / Games Side. A lot of FX companies that use Max are also starting to use VRAY, Blur being mentioned in a recent Choas Group Email I received…
