i am rendering a kitchen and came across this problem

those strange dots in the shadow area
increasing subdivs of the light has no effect
making the light to store with irr map makes it go away but the shadow looses detail
any ideas please

it seems to me it is related to the fact that you are rendering with very low antialiasing settings and bucket mode for your GI passes
I agree with Gijs, turn up/on your AA settings and turn off bucket mode a use higher settings on your GI settings.

thank gijs
problem is also noticed at 60,40 and irr map presets at High
and single frame but reduced level

any other ideas please
have you tried turning off Bucket mode yet? Looks like its still active.

barely visible now but its still there if you zoom in once

thanks syclone for helping .. let me investigate more
I don’t think it’s still there, you’re staring at it too long
(if you stare for another five minutes you might see jesus in it
)
I’m confused about your settings, a screenshot might help. But if you want to use bucket mode, you usually need higher hsph subdivs.
For an 800*600px image with vray 1.09 try this settings:
min/max=-3/0
hsph=50
interp samples=20
all tresholds=0.3
single frame mode
AA adaptive min/max=0/2
With vray 1.46 set hsph=25 and interp=12
With bucket mode increase the hsph untill the squares go away…

hi kippu
i experienced those dots in my renderings too.
they were visible when using vray-lights as sky-portals.
with sky-portal off the little dots were gone.
maybe it’s this?

Are you guys talking about the squares or something else (noise?)

Kippu … looks like a combo of GI Detail and light subdivs … but you cant hardly notice it now …i think its fine..
