Wish: randomized texture placement

Hi,

often I need to render trains full of seats. All seats based on one Rhino block. I missed a way to get a randomized seat cloth texture. Could be great, if it could be done per V-Ray materials. Or is it possible now and I have overseen the way?

This is currently achievable only by using a MultiSub texture. Slot several variants of the cloth texture within and choose “Random by render ID” for the “Get ID from” parameter.

Several user requests about material variation have been logged so far. Ideally, we would like to implement a way to generate material variations based on, let’s say, a Gradient texture.
This is currently not high on our to-do list but we hope to work on it in one of the upcoming updates, nevertheless.

Kind regards,
Peter

Works great. I used the same texture several times as sub texture, but every sub texture got an other offset. So, it looks like I hoped to get it. Also it perfect works with Rhino blocks.

Thank you very much, very powerful workflow.

Although not used in this particular case, the 0-indexed sub-texture slot is used in some of the ID source modes so for now the order will remain unchanged.
It is safe to simply delete the first entry or refit it with another index value when needed. I’ll notify the documentation team to add an explanation to the MultiSub online help page.

Kind regards,
Peter

It’s difficult to keep special usages like this in mind. It could be great if the automatic naming would start at 1 and the next added would get 2, 3, … . If an user need 0, than he could manual set it. So, it would be more functional proof.
