Re: Xfrog
i tried to make them work too and i had no problems with it
maybe you can tell me whats wrong and i can explain in a more accurate way
cheers!
this was my first try thats why leafs look a bit odd, i get them right now n_n
Re: Xfrog
when I import the 3DS models they are around 20 or 30 mb.
and when I try to make the file size of the leafs smaller the mapping is all scud up.. no matter if i bring the texture size back up to the orrigional size in sketchup..
Re: Xfrog
the problem with the xfrog collection is that theyre so hi poly, u need xfrog tune, to crunch them a bit, and unfortunatly u need a “big boy” app like max or C4D to remap leaves to jpg, sketchup refuses… its quite a bit of work but worth it i think
p.s. remember to link the texture on the trunk, by default its reflective
Re: Xfrog
thats ok… I have Max… so maby you could guid me a bit if you want
Re: Xfrog
a bit… of cheese?
have u got xfrog tune? do u know how to re-map in max? u just click on the texture find the bitmap slot and enter ur converted jpeg in there
Re: Xfrog
i did not need to remap, y just linked all maps to the tif leafs, and i got it right, oh i wish vray supported tif, that would be great n_n
Re: Xfrog
Ya I have Xfrog tune that no problem
Re: Xfrog
pleas help me?
Re: Xfrog
no one???
Re: Xfrog
1: crunch the trees you’d like to use in xfrog tune about 30k to 50k polygons are ok..then export the file as .obj (do it like this “trees.obj” you should have .obj at the end of filename for some reason I don’t know why xfrog need to treat files like that).
2: open it in c4d or import to 3dmax.
3: remap all the maps etc (using .tiff files are ok. it will showup in sketchup pro 6 but still you need jpeg for vray materials)
4:Turn the opacity of the leaves all the way to transparent in sketchup mode ( not vray)(OPACITY:this is just necessary if the leaves showed up in rendering. some of xfrog trees are doing that in vray render.
5:create a vraylinkedmtl.
6: choose diffuse (sometimes in vray v1 you need to delete the diffuse then create one again. sometimes default diffuse are not working right. bug maybe??)
7. in diffuse choose the jpeg file you created. example. leave with black background.
8: diffuse transparency: use alpha ( leave are black and background are white.
9: render.
this how I do it. maybe theres more easy way to do it.
hope this one helps you. ![]()
Re: Xfrog
after importing into C4D or max, i convert the tiff files into jpegs so i can link the leaves in sketchup and still be able to change their colour they are often not saturated enough for my liking, then map to geometry, export 3ds and import in SU, link and remove refelction/refraction…
Re: Xfrog
thanks a LOT I will try it.. ![]()
Re: Xfrog
this is one of the precious tutorial i have seen on this thread. thanks
Re: Xfrog
when I save the obj… I get an obj. file and a mtl. file.. when I try to open the obj in max. I do not get any materials whit it…
What am i doing wrong>???
Re: Xfrog
yeah, its the same in C4D the UV mapping is still there though, if u open the material editor and place the leaf texture in the bitmap slot (the same for the branch shader) it will map correctly then export 3ds… import to sketchup
Re: Xfrog
I have a problem when i import the 3DS in sketchup:
3ds Errors:
Could not create texture:EU15LEF.JPG
Could not create material:_tree 2Branch1
Could not create texture:EU15BRK1.JPG
Could not create material:_tree 2BranchSha
Could not create texture:EU15LEF.JPG
Could not create material:_tree 2DefaultSh
why is it not working… I did remap the textures in max
Re: Xfrog
thats because the 3ds is not in the same folder as the textures ![]()
very important, i had such huge hassles with 3ds, i own them now though ![]()
Re: Xfrog
thanks for your kind help free agent… It is finally working
Thanks
Re: Xfrog
The textures always end up shifting position when I import the .3ds into SU.
I use Xfrog to lower the polygons are much as possible.
Export as .obj
Convert all .tiff textures to .png
Import .obj file in 3ds (Everything fine. All textures correctly positioned)
Edit all materials to use .png files
Export to .3ds
Import .3ds in SU. Textures comes out misplaced.
I’ve searched the forum for everything about the XFrog frees, but I can’t work out what I’m missing.
