  • Speed?

    Hi

I'm really a newbie regarding this Cloud solution.

I wonder - should the Cloud be way faster than rendering local (more GPUs / CPUs available?) - or does it "just" free up the computer to do other stuff, while the Could renders the images?

    Hi Jorgensen,

The simple answer is both but it depends. It depends on what hardware you use locally to render. It might be that you have a really powerful machine which we don't match in Chaos Cloud. The hardware that we use in Chaos Cloud varies depending on the type of scene you render with us. The hardware can also be upgraded as soon as our cloud provider - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) - adds new and better options. If you share what type of machine you use locally to render, in terms of number of cores and amount of RAM, and what type of scene you'd like to render in the cloud (e.g. still or animation, etc), I can say whether you will render your scenes faster besides just freeing up local resources for design and other stuff.

As for GPUs, currently we are testing native GPU support using the available GCP options and soon we'll be able to offer it publicly. For now expect delays when rendering V-Ray GPU scenes. Which won't happen if you use the regular V-Ray engine.

    Thanks,
