  • High Resolution Print stills

    Hi all

What would be the best way to submit 9000x6750 Renders to the Cloud?

Is there a way yet to DR, or is there a high spec Node we could pick?

    Cheers

    Hi sherridge101 ,

Currently the maximum resolution limit in Chaos Cloud is set to 400 megapixels. So you can directly submit your scene to render in Chaos Cloud without worrying about limitations. We still don't offer DR but our render machines should be able to render and complete your scene in a reasonable time. Please give it a try and share your feedback.

      Hi Vladie

We’ve run a few tests. Here’s the info.

      File size
      9K (9000x6750)

      Single PC Spec 2x 12 core Xeon E5-2650 V4 @ 2.20GHz

      Render time
      8hrs

      V-Ray Cloud
      2hr 50min
      17 credits = £19 (on a £90 for 100 credit tier)

The Cloud machines are over twice as fast as a 2x 12 core PC?
What machines are in the cloud?

Overall, rendering on the cloud went very smooth and was easy to use

      Cheers

      Steve

        Hi Steve,

Looking at the details you gave, I guess you have rendered a still image with the V-Ray regular engine. I'm clarifying that as the machines we use vary. Our goal is to make sure the Chaos Cloud users get the best possible experience. The machines vary depending on the submitted scene or depending on internal decisions by our technical and business teams. These decisions can lead to an upgrade after a while in order to improve the user experience. Said all that, your job has most probably rendered on a 96 core machine with 128 GB of RAM. Again want to underline that we might upgrade this machine after a while. That's why we are building a solution which will help users evaluate the value of a Chaos Cloud credit against their local render machine and a familiar scene. Expect more from us soon.

          Hi Vladie

Yep, a 9K still image with the V-Ray regular engine - CPU Buckets, GI etc. (GPU doesn't support the GI bounce on the Maya Overrides and Secondary Matte Environment, so still a no go).

Glad to hear that a job like this gets bumped up to a high spec machine, as things could get pricey otherwise.

Having an Price and time estimate beforehand would be perfect.

Out of interest, I would like to know if the 96 machine is a rack server or Desktop, as I haven't heard of many such setups.

          Cheers

          Steve

            Hi Steve,

We work with Google Cloud Platform and they provide us with servers. Not sure exactly about the type though,
