  • Download feature

Just a feedback to the newly added download feature.
The feature works fine, but it needs a lot more clicks. While the direct option is just one click, the copy paste in terminal has a few more, but the new feature has most.
Another thing that I noticed is that after having downloaded the file the terminal stays busy for a few more minutes. Of course I can interrupt the process, as the images are already downloaded.

If that all will go into an App in the end, its all fine. An App could manage plugin, updates, up and down loads.

    Hi Robert,

Many thanks for the feedback. It helps. Agree about the clicks but you can save one click by agreeing that ccloud links are always opened by the Chaos Cloud client app. Then you will have just one additional stop - selecting the Download folder. Which is similar e.g. when downloading from Google Drive. And you are correct that all this might go into a native app which might substitute and change the whole user experience. This is something which is our goal and we want to implement.

    Thanks,

Thanks. That just leaves the question, why do it need so long after download to stop the process?
Its just, that currently it creates a number behind the folder and I need to change that.

Hello, Robert! My guess as to why the terminal stays open for whole minutes is that it is simply waiting. As long as the browser tab stays open then the Chaos Cloud client application will stay up waiting for further interactions. It doesn't actually do anything but waiting. In this particular case the only interaction I could think of is clicking the "View" folder button. When one closes the browser tab then the terminal window will disappear right away.

As to the general operation of the download feature, it first downloads whatever there is to be downloaded but it then does a verification that there have been no errors during downloading. This typically takes less than few seconds so one shouldn't be able to notice. It might be the reason that the network activity has stopped and yet the operation is not marked "completed" yet. Again, it should be very brief. On my fairly typical desktop machine verification takes about 2-3 seconds for every 1GB of download.

Yeah its a good guess, closing Safari in that case seem to solve it. It was not a minute.. more like 5 minutes. But I really hope we will see an app soon, that manage multiple up and down streams. I really often have that running parallel.
My dream is that CC is doing that all in mini App like dropbox etc. does. At that point the thing will run smooth, like auto download finished frames, a feature I love on other render farms. Because you can check the render file on an animation still rendering. I mean checking all channels, layers outputs etc.

Another of topic thing would be motion blur. Currently when turning it on file size increase like crazy. We really need some V-Ray magic here.
