Long story short, I have a killer desktop with a 64 core Threadripper and 128gb RAM and a 3090. But I could sell these pieces for a nice chunk of change. The truth is, I don’t render that much anymore. As an architect, I spend most of my time in the design phase. Im also using Vantage a lot more and only really do “high quality final images in Vray” for maybe 3-4 projects a year. I still enjoy rendering my own work and want to continue doing so. It’s fun to me.
But I also work from a laptop quite a bit for workflow reasons and I recently got a 12th gen i9 laptop with a 3080 TI and this thing is really good. I haven’t gotten deep into a Max + Vray project yet, but in the benchmark and messing around with old projects, I was very impressed. It’s about 5 times slower than my desktop… but it’s also about 5 times fewer cores. And of course it only has 32gb RAM vs the 128gb of my desktop.
Anywaysssss… I love this laptop and I love working on the go. Since I don’t render quite as much these days… am I the ideal candidate who should be setting up my scenes on my laptop and then using Chaos Cloud to render the finals? I don’t want to sell everything and then realize I made a mistake and be unable to re-acquire due to shortages and stuff. Anybody in a similar situation?
