  • PLEASE HELP: Upload Errors!

    Hi

Im trying to render a job in the cloud, and have tried 6 times, but the job keeps failing to upload with "Error - Upload Failed". I've tried deleting all uploads and the projects folder and starting again, but the same happens - please could you let me know how to fix? I've recently had this on another un related job, but luckily it worked second time. I'm guessing this is a Cloud issue?

    Many thanks!
    Pali

    Hi Pali,

Can you please share the job link with me (because I need the job ID which is in the link)? You can do this in a direct message to me if you prefer.

    Thanks,

          Hi pali_rao ,

Can you please send us the Chaos Cloud client app logs, located here: "%appdata%\Chaos Group\vcloud\client\log"? (if you're on Windows, if not, please let me know)

Also I have another request to ask you for. Can you please share with us one of the scenes which you can't upload to Chaos Cloud to investigate further and try to reproduce on our staging environment?

We looked through the upload logs and couldn't see anything which might cause the upload to fail.

          Thanks,
          Vladie

            Hi Vladie

Thank for your reply - Im using a Mac - is that file on my local machine?

I'm happy to share the scene - do you have end email address that I can sent it?

I've been able to render the scene locally on my machine without any issues.

            Thank
            Pali

              Hi Pali,

The logs on Mac are here: ~/.ChaosGroup/vcloud/client/log/

I'll share with you in a message an email where to send the scene.

              Thanks,
              Vladie

Hi Vladie - many thanks! I've just emailed you with the log files for that date, and also a Modo scene file (minus the image assets). Hope this helps!

                Thanks
                Pali

                  Hi Pali,

Thanks for the logs and the scene! The logs helped a lot. We saw that you have a large project with many files to upload. There's a known issue on Mac that in such cases the upload might fail. We've made some improvements for this case but we have logged a new issue to work on this more. Meanwhile there's a workaround. It's a bit tedious as it is manual but it should help. Please give it a try and let me know if it works:

The main goal of the workaround is to create this file "/etc/sysctl.conf" in this way using the terminal on Mac. Please enter these commands in terminal:

                  sudo echo "kern.maxfilesperproc=20000" >> /etc/sysctl.conf
                  sudo echo "kern.maxfiles=40000" >> /etc/sysctl.conf
                  echo "ulimit -n 20000" >> ~/.profile

The first command will ask for your credentials.
Then please restart your Mac so the changes to take effect.

                  Bests,
                  Vladie

                    Hi Vladie

Many thanks or getting a solution to this so quickly! I didn't have that many textures, but I did use a replicator in Modo which I converted to items resulting in lots of geo as separate layers. If I run into this issue again, I'll modify the sysctl.conf file, but may leave it as is for the time being, as (please excuse my ignorance) I don't know if it will impact anything else on my machine.

Glad to hear that you guys are working on a more permanent solution!

Thank you for all your help with this!
                    Pali
