  • Chaos Cloud not handling multichannel EXRs correctly

Projects sent to Chaos Cloud with Multichannel EXR as output format are coming back as a ZIP with a bunch of JPG files for the AOVs (in my case, cryptomatte layers and denoise elements), with the only actual EXR being the main beauty pass of the render.

I have tested locally to confirm this is a problem with the cloud and not any specific project file. When I render the same project locally, I get a single EXR with all AOVs included as expected.

    Hi beenyweenies ,

Can you please share the job URL so we can investigate the issue? If it's more convenient for you, you can do this in a direct message to me here.

    Thanks,

I have the same issue with a render I just sent up. Got the main color image in exr but all render elements return only jpg.

If you pop open the EXR in your compositing app of choice, I think you'll find that the AOVs are all included in the EXR (assuming you're doing multichannel exr), it's just that the output from Chaos Cloud is ALSO including all of the AOVs and other render elements as JPG sequences in the output.

I submitted a ticket but they didn't seem to understand what the issue was so I just updated them with more info. Hopefully it will be resolved soon, it's super annoying! I'm getting like 1,000 unnecessary files with every sequence.

I opened up the file that sent the render and found that somehow the output paths for the render files have been removed from the max file. That is really weird because it's not something you can do manually. Once you put an output path and file name in the render setup gui it is stuck there. Most likely an asset tracking user error issue on my part. I managed to get what I needed from the render anyway, so I'm moving on.
