  • Forest Pack Pro Grass not rendering correctly

I have a scene with Forest Pack Pro meadow grass (and other Forest Pack plant)s. The Forest Pack meadow grass coming out very over exposed in the cloud render as compared to with my local system.

FWIW - I did adjust the brightness in Forest Material parameters, not sure if somehow the chaos cloud is not recognizing that? Attached screen shot of that as well.

Two thumbnails are attached for comparison the test-local01 is form my system. The test-cloud-preview is form the submit to could preview render. I also submitted the job at 4k resolution and the problem exists in the completed cloud render as well.

Using 3DS Max 2023.3.3 and Vray 6 update 1.2 and most current cloud app.

Can you please help me get this sorted? Thanks!

    Hi OPEN_RANGE,

Thanks for sharing this, and I'm sorry for the troubles. We'll refund you the credits spent for the job. Just I'd like to ask you for a couple things which will help us investigate the issue and add a reason for the refund:

    1. Can you please try to use the Preview function in the Cloud submit UI of V-Ray for 3ds Max (described here)? It will test the scene locally with V-Ray Standalone which should be similar as a result to what you get in Chaos Cloud. If it doesn't reproduce the issue, this means we have a problem in one of these two steps - export or upload to Chaos Cloud. Please let me know how it goes.

    2. My second request is to prepare a simple scene which reproduces the issue, and share it with me (if it's more convenient for you, you can do so via a Direct Message here in the forums). My colleagues from the Support team would ask for that.

    Thank you,
    Vladie

      Hi Vladimir

      1. The bottom rendering in my post above (which shows the problem) was generated using the preview function in the Cloud submit UI of Vray for 3ds max. So you have that already.

      2. I will send a simple scene as you request.

I used 5 credits on this.

I use similar forest pack meadow with adjustments to materials in lot8s of scenes and hope to be able to render in the cloud again soon. If possible I would like to be kept informed of the findings and when a fix becomes available. It’ a great time saver when it works.

      Thank you

        Hi Mark,

Thanks for the quick follow-up! Yes, please share a simple example that reproduces the issue. I believe we already have logged it for improvement but it will be very helpful to have an example report by a client as well. Then I'll share the issue ID so if you'd like you can ask us for its progress.

        Thanks,
        Vladie

          Hi Vladimir,

I just DM you. The simple test scene was too large to attach to the DM so I included a link to the simple test scene in my google drive. Please confirm you have received it OK.

I tested it again including trying to adjust the Forest Material parameters. No matter what adjustments are made in Forest Material, the vray cloud preview does not recognize them. It seems that vray cloud is not connecting to or recognizing adjustments made to Forest Materials from within Forest Pack Pro>Material roll out (like shown in the screen grab in my initial post above).

Please do let me know how I can follow along on progress for fixing this. I hope to be able to use cloud for exterior scene asap, but I often need to adjust the Forest Pack Material. Unfortunately it seems that Cloud rendering will not work for any scene that makes use of the Forest Material adjustment capability

          Thank you.

            Hi Mark,

Thank you for sharing the example scene. We reproduced the issue and added the scene to an already existing issue which is to add support for the Forest Pack Color Corrections settings in V-Ray for 3ds Max. The issue's ID is VMAX-13121, and you can follow up with us using this ID to ask for its progress. Nevertheless, I'll keep you updated about its state.

I've failed your job so you got an automatic refund of the credits spent for this job. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

            Thanks again for the help!

              Hi Vladimir,

Thank you for the follow up. Good to know it's going to be addressed.

I hope it gets fixed soon. The scene I was working on took @ 5 hours to render on my system vs 50 minutes using vray cloud. (and I had two views to render)

Usually when I think something is a bug it turns out to be a problem on my end. This could be a first <g>.

Hi Vladimir. Can you give any update on this issue with Chaos Cloud and the problem with forest color? Thank you.
