  • Render cloud - render elements

    Hi there,

I am rendering through render cloud.
Question is: how do I load render elements (in this case back to beauty) in the frame buffer and be able to use it as if the render was done locally on my computer? From what I can see, I am able to load light mix and therefore control the lights but other render elements are in .jpeg format and therefore cannot be loaded into frame buffer.
Hope this was clear, thank you.

    Dear francesco_salvatori, hello.
    Welcome to Chaos Forums!

Please keep in mind the approach described here (about saving as .vrimg).

I looked at your Chaos Cloud jobs, now you are also able to compose (using Composite)- just load the .exr in VFB - you will see all channels.

    Best regards,
    TS

          Hi Tsvetomira,

I have a slight issue here: I have rendered with cloud render and then downloaded the zip. Once opened it shows the various render elements in both jpeg and .exr.
What I did is loading all the .exr files into the frame buffer but somehow when clicking on composite and back to beauty it says "missing element". I rendered with the "save image" button on and "file type" being .exr. What should I do to load the final render and its render elements correctly into V-Ray frame buffer?
Please advise as it is paramount for me to be able to postproduce the render in the frame buffer.
          Thank you once again,

          Francesco

Another addition to this: when downloading the Cloud Render job named: r side test 0 I found one onl .exr file that I could use by loading it into the frame buffer. It was working well. Yet the job “r side final” produced many .exr files. What should I do?

              Hi again, francesco_salvatori.

Please pay attention to Multichannel checkbox (see here):
Multichannel – When saving the output as an .exr, enables all the scene render elements to be saved as channels of a single image.
Additionally, keep in mind the .vrimg format too, as mentioned in my first post.

Okay, thank you again. Would you then recommend using .vrimg or .exr? Does it make any difference?

It is a matter of choice.

Will sum up some details:You are able to save directly from V-Ray Frame Buffer in these formats (even without using Chaos Cloud), load it again in VFB for postproduction and understand locally which is more suitable for your workflow.

Okay, I see. I will then select .vrimg format as it is developed by Chaos. Thank you again!!!

                      Hi Tsvetomira,

                      I keep using this thread.
I have a major issue when trying to render using a double sided material. What I am trying to do is to render fiberglass:
                      - created a generic material: fiberglass
                      - created a double sided material: set the material to be used as fiberglass

Rendering comes out ok at first, then after a couple tests more first the object renders black, then the whole render is black. Or it calculates lights and kernels then starts rendering and crashes immediately after.
                      Why would it do so?

                        Hi francesco_salvatori,

Please confirm that you met this issue even locally and not at Chaos Cloud.
I looked at your latest Cloud jobs, there are successful ones. Please keep in mind that deleting them eliminates the chance to investigate problematic cases, so we recommend to not doing it if you need support.

If the issue is shown locally, please use the dedicated channels to discuss it:Please keep your replies focused on the original topic to avoid confusion.

After reading your explanation here, my first thought is that Two Sided material has only partial GPU support (without Multiply By Front diffuse; Force Single Sided always on).
I saw that you are using GPU rendering at Chaos Cloud. And maybe on your PC this is the preferred way too.
                        But we need to understand:
                        • is it happening locally with V-Ray for SketchUp on your configuration
                        • is it happening with GPU only
                        • is there a way to investigate the original or a test scene where the issue is visible

                          Hi,

yes I will keep the replies focused on the main topic, I apologise; this being the last message of this topic on this thread.

I have tried again and: when I apply the material on a single face it would render black whether when applying the material to the whole group / component it works. I was trying to apply the material on every surface as the group / component has curved elements that need single-face material application.
                          Thank you as always
