  • Distributed Rendering using multiple Chaos Cloud nodes

One thing that I think would be very useful for Chaos Cloud users is the ability to render very large frames incredibly quickly using distributed rendering. Imagine being able to render super-high-resolution shots in a matter of a few minutes, rather than many hours.

Being able to select how many nodes you want to use to render the frame could help control the balance between credit usage and speed required.

Just a thought. Thanks to the Chaos Group team for all your hard work!

    Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the feature request and the kind words! We are considering Distributed Rendering but still can't share any implementation time-line. Another option for such cases might be the ability to split the scene in tiles and render each tile as a separate Cloud job. Will this help?

    Thanks,

It would help if it was a fully automated process.

The most frustrating part with Cloud is that it is difficult to anticipate the render time. I've used Cloud on occasions where I've needed faster return than my own system performance. I typically render 2,000x1,500 images that takes about 30 minutes to render and cost 5 credits, but today such an image took 1 hour and cost 6 credits. When I let these render on my own system they typically take a little more than 2 and a half hour, and today's render took 2 hour 43 minutes. There doesn't seem to be a reason it should take twice the time one cloud unless I was throttled.

This thread is a bit older, but I'd be interested to know if there are any updates. The render times are sometimes really annoying, and other render farms also offer distributed rendering. I prefer Chaos Cloud because I've never had any problems with plugins/materials/ACES or anything like that. Every project looks exactly the same as it does when rendered locally. The only downside is the rendering time. Is there any news about this feature? vladie
