Rumored that the next NVidia cards will be called RTX not GTX. R for Ray-tracing.
We have been working on that for quite a while now and I am happy we can finally talk about it.
Vlado will show a working V-Ray GPU version using the new RT Cores on RTX 6000 during the V-Ray Days at SIGGRAPH in Wenesday. I think it will be recorded and/or streamed live.
And a new out of core real time path tracer - Project Lavina - https://www.chaosgroup.com/blog/ray-...project-lavina and some other stuff which I don't want to spoil just yet
And I'll sell all my gtx 1080 ti and buy the brand new RTX 2080 end of august?
Let's hope that the new RT cores are useless for crypto miners.

Blago, is there a recorded stream anywhere? I believe the talk has taken place but I couldn't find it anywhere...
These are some of our early tests with RTX using the raytracing hardware, yes.
The presentation that Vlado made during the V-Ray days might be available at some point, but I am not sure.
if this new tech works on the new RTX architecture, how will that affect vray running on the old 1080 cards etc? Will they end up not being supported? Really could do with a definitive roadmap regarding hardware, before cash starts flying out of my moth ridden wallet.
Nvidia claims that 2080ti is 8 times faster than 1080ti in ray tracing - 10 gigarays vs 1.2 gigarays respectively. Does that mean that Vray GPU will run 8 times faster on a 2080ti than 1080ti too?
Here is another: Will the real time raytracing be as efficient for interior scenes with 50 to 100 lights and complex materials as it is for the 300 billion triangle forest in project Lavina?
Right now, GPU rendering is much less efficient for complex interiors than for exteriors with a sun and vray sky. Will that radically change with this technology?
We need benchmarks of 2080Ti vs 1080Ti vs Quadro RTX 5000 using VRay GPU Next
Then we need benchmarks of any new VRay render engine that takes advantage of the Tensor cores for the same scene (Assumed hardware accelerated Global Illumination, Reflection, Shadow, Glossy etc)
I need a boost of render speed but unsure if I should get 3 x used 1080Ti's off eBay for $400 each or start with a single 2080Ti FE card ($1200). Or even get the Quadro RTX 5000. Need to know the Chaos Group road-map of Tensor core support and current benchmarks really.
In addition to that, can we get GPU accelerated VRayDisplacement calculations going so that the CPU is not a huge bottleneck on ocean simulations etc
