  • my WIP with only GI environment and one direct light

Funny thing, the experiment Gijs is doing is precicely what I'm trying to do at the moment for an interior.
For this interior I didn't use any Vray lights so far. Artifact and blotches are the worst enemy, but with hemi subdivs up to 80 it's not too bad.
I'm not using any fancy light maps though, still using 1.09. All the memory problems of the newest builds kept me from using it.

It looks however that I might have to introduce a Vray light in the back, kitchen area. There's only one small window there in this design. I'm trying not to introduce artificial light sources, I want a kind of 17th century dutch painting light in this image (needs more amber tints).

    Great Marc,

what kind of colors and multipliers did you use for this one? and what is your color mapping mode?

p.s. the two leather chairs look too similar

      Gijs ,

      I used exponential color mapping 1 - 1 (still).
I changed it a little in PS though, upped the level curves slightly and then added just a little contrast.

The chairs, I know, I still have to adjust them. Same goes for the glossy reflection, most of them are still on a 3 to 5 level.

            Gijs,

Direct light: mult. 3, hsv 29,22,255
            environment: mult. 1.8, hsv 150,15,255

            And while we're at it:
            DL hotspot: 9321
            Area shadows: sphere, 12000 (subdivs

            Units in mm

            Natty,

I just don't have time to do models of furniture (and/or are too lazy ).
I did the light fixture on the cieling myself though .
Maybe one day clients will come in and pay whatever it costs for a perspective and I can spent as long as I like too. But I'm allready beginning to get the reputation of being too expensive and too slow.

            Marc

haha only we recognize that... the client never knows where the furniture models come from...

                  Thanks Marc,

I am going to try those values to see what they do for my scene.

Oops, I just got a fax from the client with the design of the kitchen. Out goes the evermotion one. I'll send him a mail first that this kitchen will be extra work .

Ive just my client ring saying can we change same manifstation on some partition glass .... My reaction was one of despair as i explained to him that the animation is now in the hands of the renderfarm and the first 1000 frames have already been done ... he was like OH .. Clients seem to make descision based apon the 3d's we produce...so what the hell did they do before us 3D Artist ??

Reminds me of a cartoon I once saw.
An architect and a client stand infront of a building they just finished. The architect says, ' Now that I see it, I don't like it either.'

So that what they probably did before us 3d guys.

Well, I had the best client you can imagine for my last project. It was a product viz. I sent some test renders and he found them good enough for a final result!

In your pic marc, I bet they don't see the blotches, and they surely don't see the noise in glossies!

A vraylight with area shadows could do some good to the floating paintings though. Otherwise a very nice render!
