  • VRay Next Update 1 _Doodles

Tonight I've downloaded the latest update and decided to do some quick tests mainly for the lighting and fog and of course to see how IPR would work in different scenarios ..So far it is so fun and addicting =D
I'm really happy with the improvements especially IPR speed /stability so thank you very much for this great update !
we're still using 3.6 for production but I think we should consider upgrading seriously now

            Thank you!
I was actually playing with both in each scene.I found IPR GPU a bit more responsive on my machine ( GX 970+ Dual Xeon ) especially for direct light shots, but both are great and can get the same result.
I think for the final render the car and the office were rendered using Next and the others using Next GPU.

Looks great. What sort of render times/sizes are you looking at with these and is 3.6 still comparable ?

                Thanks!
looking at the history in vfb the render time was like the following : 5 min for the red room - 6 min for the car - 10 min for HD version of the office (I think the high res took 50 min but I don't have it saved )- the chair 3 min with fog and 50 sec without fog )
the resolutions are varied and can be found if you open each image in a new tab in the title.
my machine specs are dual Xeon e5 2650 v3 and 970 gtx.
If we are talking about IPR then there is no comparison with 3.6 as IPR now is much much faster and more stable.
As for production rendering, I'm not sure but will try to render a project that I'm working on now in 3.6 using the latest update and comeback with numbers later.

                  okay, here it is =D
This is WIP from a scene for commercial animation that I'm working on now with fog, over 300lights, DOF and MB directly from the camera and almost 35 k animated characters scattered using Forest pack so it is the kind of project that we work on daily.
                  Vray 3.60 : 14 min 44sec
                  Vray Next U1 : 9 min 27 sec
So it is almost 35% faster in this scene!
I've noticed some difference in the ceiling lighting, but it is not a big deal

Working with IPR is so addicting now =D
Another quick doodle between the commercial projects for fun.
Btw the car is a free model that you can find here ( it is free but you can pay few bucks to support the artist tho )
I have just applied simple materials and a couple of ies lights, I might come back to it later to do proper shaders and more artistic reflection highlights.

it seems that you have some caustics near the rear wheel and the side of the car.
                          How did you do them?
