This shot ended up being rendered at 25350x18150...which was half the resolution the client requested.

Very nice! How was using V-Ray Cloud? Did you use any plugins?

No issues. It took longer to upload and download then to render I over-prepped and reduced the scene file before submitting. In this scene there were no plugins used...I generally try to avoid plugins when possible, minus iToo.

I just remembered, one minor issue was that there is a resolution cap for V-Ray Cloud and you have to submit a ticket to have that cap increased. My client needed the high resolution image for a Trade Show Booth graphic (which they requested on Friday and needed Monday morning). Because it was the weekend my ticket wasn't handle until Monday (which is completely reasonable). I ended up having to render locally and allow more noise into the render then I normally like to do...denoise at that resolution, I figured, would be a bad idea.

It would have been nice to be able to override the resolution cap but I understand why it's there...Noobs "Are you sure you want something stupid?" Yes, please!

            Nice renders as always

            That's a ridiculous res
When clients ask me for such huge images I always try to convince them to not print such huge prints in 300dpi. Since you see it from a few meters away anyway. And to this day, always when a client insisted on that res I got a call after I sent them the 3+gb PSD asking me if could scale it down because their computers or the ones from the printing company aren't able to handle those files.
The last time is a while back, though. Might not be the case anymore.

The image is great other than that tablecloth. looks like a standard grey material with the diffuse color changed, really stands out as having no detail even at a distance.

people who ask for resoutions like that are wrong and do not understand how printing or images work. dont bother next time and if they're a pain in the ass about it matching that res, scale it up in post.

I agree. The fabric choices were defined by the client's art director. They didn't want the table fabric to compete with the chair.

I haven't ever been sold on render farms because of the upload times. When upload speeds increase that might change, but for now, waiting a day to upload the textures for a still is silly.

My upload speeds aren't great. I plan to really only use it for animation or if I have an insane amount of stills I might have to adjust how I handle post work for animation. Downloading 50gbs for a 30 second animation...also silly.

Plugins have also been an issue for me. I only use the big player ones, but several are not supported on most farms. I have also had bad experiences with the estimated times being a fraction of the actual times.

I haven't had that experience yet. For animation, frame times can vary greatly depending on what you're looking at in your scene...especially if your using in scene DOF and motion blur. I think the craziest variation in time i've seen was 15 minutes to 3 hours (wide shot to super closeup).

At this ridiculous resolution every little UV stretching is visible.
Kudos on a job well done.

This is really cool! Great attention to details.
I like the camera animation especially.
