Yes, Forest Pack and the roof is per their specifications. When I do asphalt shingles, it is just displacement. I started doing my roofs with the script over at DigitalXModels.com, however, it stopped working after MAX 2016, so I just merge a roof that I did back then and copy the settings, changing the roof color, which is MAX tiles.Last edited by glorybound; 20-10-2019, 07:17 PM.Bobby Parker

How do you handle clients this? They give you vague directions and then red-line the heck out of things. You make the changes and they look at it again, making totally new comments, not made in the previous iterations. I'll get comments like, "now that I see it, let's try this!". I see it as an added value, but someone has to pay for it and it shouldn't be me. Added value isn't free stuff, it is being able to make decisions now when it is cheaper than later. Me moving a window might cost you a couple of hundred bucks (new render after the two allowed revisions are done), however, it might cost you a couple thousand after it is built. Some people I think feel intitled or something as if rules don't apply to them. On this one, it was one view, then two views and ultimately the third view. I finished the first view and what she added to the newly requested second view affected the first view and the changes she made to the third requested view affected both the first and second views. In her mind, of course, all the images have to be coherent, and I agree, however, we disagree on who is paying for the coherency. Rendering a scene takes resources in both time and post-production, so it isn't as simple as hitting render and getting updated images in seconds. Anyway, thoughts?Bobby Parker

Simple - the client needs to understand the implications of changes and how they propagate through each image output. There is a cost and they need to pay this cost.
I try to make my clients understand this. Some do, some don't/are not interested. They still need to pay for my time/effort/design input.
Whatever the project - archvis or otherwise, I try to make this all clear at the beginning. For example, if it is a product then I typically ask how close they need to ever be to it, as this affects the LOD necessary and therefore sometimes the
eventual cost - i.e. they can't ask for one thing and then effectively need that object remodelled in order to achieve a different end with no cost incurred.
I did a long complex animation a while ago that included what the client thought was, and provided, a generic Google-type car with a roof camera. Just now they came back and need it all redone because Google got all legal about the car and it has to be changed.
Mistakes happen - this was theirs - they pay.
About 'red-lining the heck...' - I had one idiot take over a year on 2 images of 2 properties. It was torture - move this, move it back, add more flowers, take them out, add people, take them out etc. etc.
I lost track eventually of the costs. My mistake, I took the hit and effectively told him to go forth and multiply
End situation is: You make the rules - if they don't like then they can....see above suggestion

I am very clear in my contract, but it doesn matter and they almost thumb their nose at it. Recently I had a return client come to me with a rush job on a Friday afternoon for a Monday deadline. I took it, worked all weekend and on Monday I got a mess of red-lines. I explained that I have a busy schedule, so when I deliver on Monday, it is done. He said that the deadline was extended, so I made the changes since he did pay a premium for a rush job. Again, on the second iteration, he made more comments. Basically, he cut in line without any respect for my current workload.
I am currently working on an interior and she is calling the shots. I told her two sets of color revision and she is on four and she hasn't even sent me her furniture plan. She said that she wants to work on colors and materials first and then furniture. The funny thing is, once I don't feel appreciated I lose interested and their images never turn out to be my best. They leave no room for creative discovery. I mean, I don't want to change a thing and so many good images come from playing around with light and camera angles.
The thing is, they are coming from a point of view that they can easily go overseas and pay pennies on the dollar. I believe this is their mindset and some have said it. I ignore leads that start with this kind of intent. I got a web lead last week and he said that he wants top quality for cheap... needless to say... I told him that my schedule is full for the remainder of the year.
Anyway, back to work.Bobby Parker
