I've made a short animated film about a horse, struggling to exist.

Please watch with sound if possible BUT I must warn you, not too loudly

I will post some of the technical info later.

    Cheers!

Thanks Bobby - I am genuinely incredibly ill right now! This may explain a lot...

I'm hoping not, but me and the kids are really sick, so I'm definitely not ruling it out... D:

id love a technical breakdown. all that extreme, but super clean deformation is really hard to pull off. you make it look easy.

Thanks man, this sort of thing has been the holy grail for me for ages. Basically, tyFlow's amazing tyMesher component is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. The underlying geometry is super simple/basic but I used tySelect and tyConform to help give the horse the feeling of softness. Also I took a LOT of time animating all the secondary motion by hand to make sure the physicality felt right.

man tyflow is incredible isnt it. i find myself using it for the most obscure non-particle-related stuff.. and every release, just for giggles, he also replaces a crappy max feature or two with a perfectly stable multithreaded ty-version... i mean.. ty-preview? h264 veiwport previews straight from max? how long would that have taken autodesk?

It truly is incredible. Not only does Tyson have the technical know how to actually program this stuff, he has years of production experience to know what would actually be useful and the best way to implement it. He's always been amazingly talented, I remember taking part in the animation challenges with him back in the day on CGtalk and he was so young but SO good already... I cannot stress how glad I am that he turned his incredible brain to fixing & improving Max's functionality.

Just to note. My 7 year old son has seen this 5 times and has beeen laughing for 10 mins straight. This sort of thing i can imagine as part of a surreal short animated sketch show. Apart from the insane amount of work, its a great idea

Excellent! It has been thoroughly tested on my 4 yr old son and 7 year old daughter. They still aren't sick of watching it yet, so that has to be a good thing!
