These are really really good. Makes a huge difference when you treat the car like its actually there with available light. Just re-create whats available on set. Also the talent is combined very well. Overall top top work.

Are you using Vr scans for any exterior shaders? Or just interior.

4th shot in, that grille shot, honestly cant fault it. Looks so photographic. Whole set is right up my street with light + shadow vibe.

We use some VrScans for both the exterior and interior.

I do the same with my nearly 30 year old car, solely for the reason to protect it from other parking cars (dents and dings in the bodywork)...

Even when I had an ancient car back at uni I have always parked far away to avoid door dings. I like to sing, “Door dings are forever!” to the tune of “Diamonds are Forever” from the James Bond film.

These are really cool images of course - but I was wondering what the thing in the sky is, in the one on the roof with the girl - 8th down. Maybe it's a bird or something...just looks like it maybe shouldn't be there
              EDIT: I reckon it's a helicopter...

It is indeed. We left it in because in some of the images on the platform, a helicopter and a skydiver were shown. It was shot accidently, but it goes along with the narrative.

Hehe yeah that is eventually what I thought, that it was intentional. It's an interesting decision that I actually like; it reinforces that it's 'real' shot rather than something staged and 'perfect'.
I am definitely more a fan of this type of auto image as opposed to the omnipresent, ultra shiny 'takes a week to set up the point perfect studio lighting' kind of thing.
Anyway again, like everyone has said, great series of images.

                    Hi
nice work, where did you get the car models from? BMW have a world wide ban on 3D models of their cars (since 2016 it seems) and Rolls Royce, as I recently found out !

Can they prevent someone making a model of their car - did they stop you? In this instance Kosso has them as his client but I'd be interested to know your situation.

It's not a ban on 3d models existing, it's a ban on the resale and use of them within unauthorised marketing materials.
For movies, games, and official marketing campaigns they allow it.

Did you have a stand in car for reference? Also, with the dome capture, how to you approach it? Are you supplied with unclipped domes? Or do you get what every photographer creates, a clipped lizardQ dome and have to edit the dome to have more realistic sun?

We do get the data from the client, we did not create the car from scratch. As described above, the manufacturer banned the use of 3D data in some places, but for ad campaigns, they give out the data.

BMW banned sites like Turbosquid from selling any models of their cars. Try it, a search for "BMW" returns no results.

There was an SUV-type stand-in car for reference, yes. Huge help for matching the perspective and lighting.
We use a Roundshot VR Drive, a motorized panoramic head with a Nikon D800E and a fisheye. The output is similar to LizardQ, but cheaper and unclipped if you do it right. We rarely rely on what the photographer gives us because they often do not care about stuff like this...

I've just been testing domes from an automotive photographer who bought a Lizard Q recently. I've been showing him tests comparing HDRI Haven domes and his. Nice and sharp on a Lizard, but oh so clipped. I've never, ever had an unclipped dome from a professional photographer. They'll have a Phase one, one set tent, Lizard Q, 100k worth of gear, and come back with a dome that gives me soft blue shadows, and doesn't do anything to the paint flake.

Good to know you guys are doing it correctly, the results speak for themselves!
