  • Exterior House - Landscape preViz

    Hello,

I am in-between projects so I have some time to burn and play with Vray I am helping my father plan out his landscaping ideas on his newly construsted home. He sent over a 2d autocad file with his land measurements (inches).

I modelled the house from a few photos that I took. Modelling time was about an hour. I am looking for a clean detailed render with nice outdoor lighting. As you can see there is a bit of blotchy samples on the garage door and window awnings. The windows is just a VrayMat with color and a bit of refl turned on. Help with the windows would be great also.

The scene is lit using GI and a Target Directional light as the sun. (Multiplier 0.75 , slightly yellow color)

This image has been composited with PS. (Background trees and sky):

    Here are my render settings:

The render took about 15 minutes on a Dual AMD MP 2600+ running latest Vray (1.47.02)

    Thanks !

Looking great. I would up the sun multiplier to at least 1.0 and level the camera (or use camera correction mod) You've got some tiling on the brick and retaining walls. Also some artifacts on the garage doors that can probably be fixed with higher i map settings. Some displacement on the grass and more bump on the shingles and brick would be nice. Put some falloff in the window refections (or use fresnel). Would be nice if they reflected the sky a little. Sky and vegitation are fantastic!

        looks good

The image is looking good But I would check the following

1.) it seems the whole house is brick but there is a off white section on the left side... Is that intentional?

2.) the seat wall has omething going on with the mapping. Are you using a Map Scaler or a UVW Map?

3.) The windows need reflection & Refraction. The EZGalss fomr Vray makes a good glass texture has some nice presets for refections..."Very easy to adjust"

But other than that everything looks good. Keep up the good work!

1.) it seems the whole house is brick but there is a off white section on the left side... Is that intentional?

--Yep - Thats sidding - continues to the back of the house.

2.) the seat wall has omething going on with the mapping. Are you using a Map Scaler or a UVW Map?

--UVWmap for quick view - My father is still deciding if he wants the wall there. Should I try Map Scaler ?

3.) The windows need reflection & Refraction. The EZGalss fomr Vray makes a good glass texture has some nice presets for refections..."Very easy to adjust"

--Will do that next - Does the glass need to have thickness or a single plane will suffice ?

But other than that everything looks good. Keep up the good work![/quote]

          Thanks !

I'm making changes to this during the evening and will post results.

map scaler is great on walls and such so give that a go and I'm pretty sure your glass should have thickness.

I always set my glass to 1/8" . for exteriors I dpont think it matters as much. when it comes to interiors the thickness will change the way the lighting is so you have to boost your exterior lights to get a better lighting soulution...
              Thanks

Re: Exterior House - Landscape preViz

Are you really using adaptive subdivision 1/6 ?
                You`re having too much time?
I never got higher than 0/3.
Catmull is the sharpest filter - usually -1/2 works great . And saves time .

I would suggest bumping the sun to 2-3 (yellowish) and Environment to 1,15 (blueish color) and then setting the colormap to HSV expotential or intensity exp. 1/1 (or 1.2/1 to bring the dark details up). This should certainly bring the light in !

The secondary bounces subdivs are also set way too high IMHO. (you`re not getting any improvement in render quality but you`re slowing down the calculation time). The bugs on garage doors must be caused by delone triangulation interpolation.

                Cheers,
