These two images are nearing completion. I'd appreciate any crits you care to offer. The background on both are not correct as we are waiting for the site photography to get done.

the general lighting isnt good ... your relying on internal lights rather than lighting your scene from the true scource in the first image and the second lacks texture detail in the ceiling and wood boards .. I think if you address these areas you will produce a more convicing image's.

all the materials and modelling look great to me but i was wondering if there is any cornicing or shadowlines on the ceiling?

Personally i think the images look very good with the only comment being that may be slightly too bright which is drowning out the effect of the daylight. I've got the same problem to be honest....Trying to do what Natty said while keeping the image bright seems to be impossible for me anyway

you got some good models in there, but they are being destroyed by way too much light. start with the sun and work on an additive approach. and rather than using loads of lights inside, just use a little color mapping and then brighten up in photoshop where needed.

Thanks for your replies. I do agree with everyone that they are overly bright. Right now my color mapping is set to Intensity Exponential with dark/bright multipliers both set to 1.0. I don't like using HSV because it seems to screw around with the color too much.

Jow - the bushes are OnyxTree bamboo, the flowers on the square table are from TurboSquid and the ones on the round table are just a composited image.

While it's true that you are losing some detail because of the brightness, I wouldn't say that your images are too bright - it's all about the look that you want.

Maybe it's because you are using exponential color mapping, but it seems that there is not a big enough variation between the intensity of your exterior lighting and the intensity of your interior lighting. For example, in the first image, I would expect the view out the window to be almost completely white with the interior being so bright. Likewise, in the second image, I would exect the interior to be darker.

Just my thoughts, for what they are worth.

The designers I work with are rarely concerned with what a space will "actually look like." They are more interested in how they want the space to appear. I'm constantly being asked to lighten up interior spaces that are viewed from the outside. Which looks totally whacky to me but makes the client happy.

Hi, I'm agree with you (about the designers), here a simple file with a kind of setup.
It work for interior and perhaps it could help you, This is not the better lighting of the world but just a little test, play with for interior and perhaps it will be good to adjust for exterior.

With it everybody have win two good models

Using the new scene states in Max 7 you can save the setups for interior vs. exterior in the same file
