  • Before and Afters

I was contracted to do treatments if 3 rooms in a large mountain resort home. they are trying to sell it but it is in their words "dated". There was no architect or interior designer involved. I was given free license to come up with my own ideas. It was important to retain some elements of the original and not represent so much work that a tear down would be needed. The original photos and then the corresponding renderings are shown.

I hope you charged for design services. I get this sometimes and I never take on the challenge. Not that I don't have good taste, but because it is usually a sign that someone is trying to get design services for free. Anyway, good job! Merry Christmas!

I'm finding it hard to make sense of the before/after thing....is the 'before' version a photo or a composite photo?
Some parts of it look like it's a photo but other parts completely throw me, visually.

I think it is because, for me, everything is so overlit, therefore so many things appear to be not 'grounded'.
I'll take another look in the morning and see if my opinion has changed

Hi Bobby and Merry Xmas to you as well. I was well paid. This was for a realtor to show prospective buyers aa concept of what could be done. If/When it sells then presumably the new owner would hire architect/interior designer and do a full makeover of the house. It needs it.

The before photos are from a professional real estate photographer who shot the whole house inside and out including drone shots. They are likely blended exposures plus professional lighting equipment.

There is also a Matterport tour which was helpful esp the with the included measuring capabilities.

The house is @ 7k sq ft. 6 beds, 7 baths, on the fourth green of the golf course and also ski in ski out. It’s big but dated and unattractive inside and out. I think its for sale for about $6M and the idea is a 1.5M makeover.

You did a really nice job on this. Looking at the thumbnails doesn't do it justice. The large versions look nice. We had our house photographed and everything had a very heavy HDRI filter applied to everything; I didn't like it. I like contrast, but they wanted all the lights on, all the window coverings pulled open, and then they had filler lights; absolutely no shadows, which to me, lacks depth.

              Thanks!

A large percentage of what I do is to be used for sales and marketing. Here, there are lots and lots of ads for properties featuring professional real estate photography. For my real estate sales renderings to be successful and satisfy the client they need to look similar, ideally indistinguishable, from those professional photographers stuff.

Aha!....today I see what you did...thanks for the explanation.

So yeah, you did a really good job of matching to the photo....it's just that for me personally it is not a good photo, and that is partly how it's lit,
exactly what Bobby said they did with his...way too much light and lacking depth,
but also as you say, it is just generally unattractive and weird looking.

As they say, there's no accounting for taste
