Wanted to share a few recent look dev images from a portfolio / pitch piece Im working on. The location is based on the Barcelona Pavilion, with a few liberties taken, such as the type of trees and the marble. This will ultimately be an animation, but I wanted to share some stills first.

Cheers fella. My VFB settings are kind of funky I think...I always get warnings from Vray saying Im using the wrong options, but it works for me! Ive attached all my VFB settings...but Ill tweak them a bit if its an indoor vs outdoor shot. Ill bump the LUT opacity up if it needs some punch, or lower the gamma value (to raise gamma) if I need it to be more airy...and keep an exposure on standby to overall boost or darken.
But the display correction settings is what vray tells me off for...but its the closest combination of settings I can find that lets me match photo backplates...so I figure itll do just as well for full CG stuff.

Nice images I've done that too many years ago, if you are interested I may have some texture for the original interior onyx.
I think that palm trees doesn't work for this architecture, maybe it's just because I know the original.3D Scenes, Shaders and Courses for V-ray and Corona

Hah! yeh a lot of people Ive shown these to have modelled this place...seems like a right of cg passage....and also another person has sent me their textures for it, but Im thinking of sticking with my incorrect ones. I agree the trees can look out of place when you are familiar with the real location, but this was kind of inspired by that first sunset render I did with the palm tree blurred in the background, so I new I wanted it to feel a bit tropical. These are currently cosmos trees, but I might swap some out for certain shots from speed tree where I might need a hint of wind animation. If cosmos trees ever have the option to include wind, Id happily pen a thankyou letter to the devs.

The setup is interesting, but the results look totally convincing!

Looks nice! Have you tried rendering with V-Ray default settings? I would be interested in seeing them with default settings and the difference in quality and speed.Bobby Parker

Speed wise they arent bad. I can get an HD 1920 x 1080 render out in about 8mins with a little bit of denoise help (with depth of field rendered in). Its going to be an animation, so need render times under 15mins a frame ideally. Not tested with vanilla Vray, but rendering without the things I think make a good image would be like cooking without all the ingredients to make a dish taste good. Ive been noodling with these layers for a fair few projects now and Ive kind of settled on a look that works well when Im matching a car into photo backplates, and also gives me a result I like in full CG. Perhaps once I get my head around aces and my backplates work in Vray without having to correct them, Ill have a more "normal" workflow, but for now my bastardised workflow is here to stay.
