  • Italian Piazza

This is the Piazza for Robert Zemeckis version of Pinocchio.
Building and texturing this rich Italian architecture was immensely gratifying,I just wished we had more time during preproduction. Lovely work! being an Italian architect I can see a few details that can be improved but I'm sure nobody will notice

Thank you sirio76, I agree but that’s how concept illustration go, it’s never fully finished unfortunately.

Even though it's concept it's way better than some stuff which passes as production.
I saw a scene in House of the Dragon with a carriage entering a city. There were various little stalls
and entourage lining the street and the way they were done was just amateurish...lack of proper contact shadows, bad lighting
and just generally shoddy execution. Plus easily spottable tiling repeats on the stone. Shocking really

Thanks Bobby, I had a lot of fun with that hilltop, its nice when they leave you alone and let you run with it, there were many variations and many renders done, I wanna revise some of those and the wide shot with the bridge before Xmas now that I've more period people scanned, I still haven't seen the movie ....shame on me.

inspiring x10. interesting that all the shots have that right lean dutch angle (tower of pisa?). thanks for sharing your work it's super pro!

looking again I see it’s more a vertical perspective that is common thru the images vs dutch angle. Gives it all a sort of looming above feel.

Hi Mark, what you are seeing is just the perspective distortion from the Alexa camera, most big movies are shot with a large format camera in this case an Alexa LF 65 with a 35mm Prime lens 2.39 aspect ratio, they are very wide even for a 35 but is also very good for showing as much of the set as possible. You can control this distortion by adjusting the Vertical Film Offset in the camera Attributes.( Maya)
A dutch angle is more of a narrative device and artistic composition, that's when the camera is tilted to convey a certain feeling and style.

                            interesting and cool to know!

(I did know what the dutch angle is (horizon not level cause camera tilted) and should not have even mentioned it .

                            thanks!
