"Show us your Balsa models" - Balsa wood models

Have been experimenting with a Balsa model look for preliminary model proofing stage. I find that it helps client to focus on the model only without the distraction of half finished materials.

Reminds me of the good old days back at uni...scalpel and UHU glue anyone?...

looks cool tho. i think the tree shadows in the middle image may be confusing the look you are going after.

I always go for the white card model look initially as it saves me having to do any mapping.

I love the balsa models...I did this one about 1+ year ago....the clients wanted to see the physical model, I said...I'm sorry, it's a CG balsa model"

Really Balsa? We used basswood, found it to be smoother, and had much less of a visible grain. I enjoyed making those models, but I was told by my professors that I was better at computer modeling and I should stick to that. Hmmm... thinking back, don't know if that was because I sucked at the basswood models or that no one else was doing computer modeling.

Here's a basswood model I did way, way, way back when VRay was just a puppy. Colors and map scale are all messed up, but it was a quickie just for the heck of it.

I really like this idea. I think I'm going to try to implement it in the future. Most of the time, the white GI model throws the client off and I don't get any of the information/feedback from them that I need. But I think doing this, showing them something they're used to seeing, might produce better feedback from the clients.

I have been using a similar balsa model look for some models I have done recently. Clients love them at the early stages.
Reminds me of doing balsa model at uni. At least this way your fingers dont get stuck together with glue and you dont get cut by the scalpel!
