  • Animation test...Speedtrees and Dreamscape

    Hi all,
just a test I want to share, getting decent Speedtrees shadows using Dreamscape sun...(so, no speedshadows possible).

I duplicated the tree, set to cast shadows only, and billboard it toward dreamscape sun.

Worked nicely, except the trunk would show transparent polygons, because of the overlapping geometry. So, I went in CAD lite, and edited the trunk to be a hair smaller in diameter. It worked.
Oh, and U need to keep the same random seed number, for both visible no shadows and invisible shadows-only trees...

Of course, for two gazilion trees this may not be the best setup...

Here, I wanted to experiment with time lapse kind of effect, hence, using the plugin sun (it automatically changes color, and effects the sky and clouds rendering)

The scene may look some flat, but I wanted the shadow of the tree well visible, therefore the sun is forward, and the camera looks mostly at the dark side of the buildings.

Sorry, the QT file is 15Mb...

Let me know what U think

    regards,

The initial foreground plant is another Speedtree, 3/4 underground, so you basically see just the tip...

thank you for your kind comments,

I have only used dreamscape for stills, what was your process for doing the animation giovanni?

Well, you can animate the sun like any regular directional light (or you could link it to a sun light system if you need accurate time/location lighting).

Then you can animate the clouds going into the cloud layer, open the preview, auto key ON in MAX, go to the time you need and simply drag the cloud layer in the preview window.

Numerically speaking, in the dreamscape panel there is a X and Y offset values. Those are changed when you drag the clouds in the preview.

              Regards,

              gio
