Since I hardly ever post any work on the forum, I thought I should start posting a bit more. This is the latest project we worked on:
Gosu, a Bergen based design house, were given the task of designing the identity of a new TV channel that TV2 Norway were launching in this september. A big part of this job was to create a series of commercial bumpers. Since the production time had to be very short they approached us and asked if we wanted to work with them on the project, which of course we wanted to.
During July and the first week of August Gosu, TV2 and Lambie-Nairn developed the visual identity of the channel, and came up with the bumper concept. They ended up with the very visual zebra stripe concept where the stripes would be projected onto a background, middleground and finally a foreground shot on film. During the front bumper the camera would show the background and middleground from a side, so that you see the texture sliding through the objects. And then during the back bumper the camera moves so that the stripes all line up for the last second when the channel logo is in the picture.
The footage was shot in a huge bluescreen studio on 35mm during a few hectic days in the second week of August. The film was scanned to 2k cineon files, and from the 16th of August sixteen very hectic days started, with retiming, tracking, modeling, animation, lighting and lots and lots of rendering.
The 3D is rendered in VRay (doh!) in several passes and with G-buffers (GI, reflections, diffuse, normals) to 16bit PNG files. Everything has 3D motion blur and is rendered at 1024x576 (PAL 16:9 squarepixels). Lighting is done partly with an HDRI we shot on set, and partly with bouncecards and VRay lights.
For these first five bumpers we ended up with about 7GB of files, which Edvin at Gosu then put together in Digital Fusion. The bumpers were delivered on September 2nd and went on air September 5th when the channel launced.
These five bumpers are the first delivery, and at the moment we are working on a second group.
