  • Vantage vs Corona

One-click conversion, 15 minutes of adjustment.
The quality of Vantage is amazing.
The only thing that Vantage lacks for me is the Color Correction of HDRI. I have to adjust it in Photoshop and save it as a copy every time.

    What is the rendertime difference?
If I should evaluate just the quality, it seems that the Vantage one has fewer secondary rays as it seems darker in the shadow areas... it's just a matter of tonemapping or some tricks that Vantage does to cut rendertime?
In any case...it's just a minor thing... the overall quality is very fine.

Hi, thanks for this very interesting thread. The images look great.

We have this logged as feature request in our system (LAV-530) so there is a good chance it will be added. I will link this thread to it..

I don't know the render time in Corona because someone sent me this Corona scene. But Vantage is really fast. I will try re-rendering it in Corona.
the GI bounces just 4 times in Vantage, but I think is enough for most cases. Most people don't care about this small difference. It would be better if could be set to 6 bounces.

Maybe it would be better to limit the time to compare the quality? I don't know how to limit the same sample and compare the times.
Are Vantage's Samples and Corona's Passes the same thing?

Hi, if I understand correctly, the original scene is in Corona. Did you use Corona 12 RC1 and export it to Vantage, or did you convert it to V-Ray first?

I used "V-RayMax Converter PRO" to converter to VRay first, then live linked to Vantage

watching the images with more attention, it seems that the background is rotated... this seems affecting reflections but also the lighting.
Could you try to match it?
Probably the slight lighting difference will be corrected by this.

Good to know, thanks for the info.
Just two cents about the denoiser: you can also use the Intel denoiser in Corona. It produces much better results on quickly rendered images than the Corona high-quality denoiser.

It's hard to match because Vantage doesn't support Color Correction in environment. I tried to edit the background in Photoshop but the range of values in Gamma, contrast are different.

Besides that background is just a jpg in standard mapping type (not Spherical) with Tiles*2 & UV offsets, which Vantage also doesn't support.....(╯°Д°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Finally i gave up and picked a similar HDRI as background. It may affect the reflection and refraction but their lighting is the same.

Hey, this is great, thanks a lot for testing! I would be curious about your results of direct export from Corona 12 to Vantage.
