  • Finally, we have a site!

We just completed the site for our animation studio and it went live this afternoon. It's small and simple, but we really just wanted to publish some our content. Everything was rendered in VRay. There's still some things we want to add, but for now it's online. Anyway, c&c are always welcome, enjoy!

    First impression with firefox

my main comment is that the main content of the site (portfolio) shows up in a non-resizable window, and i have to scroll down in the window to get to the 'next piece' button

you need to either make the window open up to the size of the page, or move the 'next' button up to the top of the page...

Good point with the window size... I initially made it small so it wasn't too big for people with 800x600 displays... Although I'm not sure how many people actually use that screen res anymore, lol. I'll definitely change that one way or another.

I really wanted to share the content of the site, though. Namely SID's Trip, an animated short / demo reel that we produced. It started off as a series of tests, mainly vfx stuff, and eventually evolved into what it is now. It's the first portfolio piece on the site

Nice and soft design of site. But I dont like windows jumping from another windows that jumped from third window. It makes me feel little bit like "where the hell is that thing I clicked on ??"

I agree that you should resize window in portfolio and also "next item" button must be visible and accesible without scrolling. Maybe put also direct link for downloading your movies. Playing quicktime in such javascript popups doesn't always work.

BTW: Real nice and detailed model of that Corvette, it is cool

I agree about the popup, I would simply get rid of it and let the site open in the normal browsers window of the opening page. If people find your site from a search engine, and go to the main page directly, it won't open in a popup anyway. That is 'if' they find it with a search engine, because by using a javascript popup the search robot will get stuck on your intro page. Actually, a popup has only disadvantages imo (no browser back button either).

And with a size of 600px high, 800*600 people will not be able to view the whole popup window and since they can't resize it, it will be very annoying (600px - browser top and bottom - windows taskbar = way less than 600 )

          Content is very nice!

Maybe you're planning this, but I would also make the text in html, better for filesize and way better for search engines.

          kind regards,

          wouter

Great idea! I can't believe we missed that before. That's getting added for sure.

Not anytime soon... Right now I'd have to force the client do download the font that I'm using for the text, which happens to be a pay font :/

Great suggestions everyone, much appreciated. It'll be nice once we get a web person and I can defer all this to them

Cool site! I'll check the reel at home as soon as I can cause I don't have qt7 at work... Anyway, I just think the site doesn't really need to be a popup window.

              Cheers
