  • De Avonden

My first illustration for the Dutch Rails magazine.

The illustration subject is the Dutch book "De Avonden" ["The Evenings"] by Gerard van het Reve.

The swan with the large popping eye and the other elements occur in the lead character's nightmares.

    All the best,

    Metin

      Thanks!

Yep, I wanted to reflect the bizarre nightmares the lead character has in the book.

I am rerendering the swan's eye though. It looks more like a black sphere than an eye right now.

      Cheers,

      Metin

New version is ready. Hit refresh if you still see the black eye.

          Cheers,

            Hehe funny

I don't like the low contrast the image has, also the bunny is floating. Wouldn't it be better to make the eye 1/3th smaller, so you can actually see the swans head a bit more? Now it looks as if an eye is floating around in space and just happens to be in front of a swans head.

              Wow, that is pretty weird.
Put also kinda cool. Have you thought about putting some stuff in the background? seems a bit bare.

                Thanks!

I didn't want to make the image too crowded. That might make the image lose its surreal effect. I think the empty street adds to the estranging atmosphere.

                Cheerio,

Was it clear that I meant myself with "this chap"?
