    It looks a bit shite actually - forgot to hide an object in the render - thats what I get for doing 3d after a day of doing 3d and trying to understand quaternions

        Slightly better sampling and no objects in front - http://www.joconnell.com/stuff/vray_mblur.mov The sampling seems to have a big effect on the brightness of the blur - you need to turn up the motion blur subdivs to get any real effect from the vray light material. Also the fade out on the motion blur doesnt seem as prevalent as I'd have thought - any reasons for this?

        I'll probably get some real light pen footage and see can I match it for the larf...

          What do you mean by the fade out of the motion blur?

            As I mentioned the first one I rendered was using the line for the neon tube as the path for the animated object so it was ntersecting and thus looked like pants. What I meant by the motion blur fade off, I thought that the motion blur would gradually fade into nothing at the head and tail of the streak and be brightest in the middle - Turns out that this wouldn't be accurate though - this is the type of effect I'm going for and it seem solid at both ends

              yeah.. thats what i thought.. cause it looked fine to me.

              Now you gotta go for the whole crazy swhirl thing.

              oooh that gives me an idea..

              use pflow and a sphere setup some winds etc..etc.. and have 1 or maybe 2 particles spinning and moving around inside the sphere or on its surface and then use the script that turns the motion of a particle into a spline (can be found on this forum somwhere, ask me if you can find)... then use the resulting spline for your moblur test

              could be pretty funky i reckon.

              <edit>
              Sorry for hijacking your thread morbid angel

                Absolutely - I had to do that on an ad recently with pflow spheres using a vry light material - looked really nice on the render.
