    I'm curious to know on the Mercedes animation how you achieve that chrome look. Mostly, how do you setup your reflections?

      Not that I want to speak for Joost, but most of the time making chrome, glass and any other really reflective object look good is all down to giving them something interesting to reflect. This could be something really simple like a subtle gradient or a more complicated hdri map.

      Here's a set of photographs showing a car shoot and the environment is a simple brown fabric with the lights adding simple gradients of colour which give a bit more interest in the reflections:

      Here's a tutorial by neil blevins that goes through a few things about reflective and glossy surfaces. It's based around the scanline and brazil but the knowedge works with vray the same way.
