  • Need advice...

I usually work on mostly "clean" surfaces, but this is for a challenge for CGTalk. Please point out the things that jump out at you that could use some work.

    Regards,
    Mike

    Nice.

But what is that huge pink thing in the corner? And some of your textures, such as the floor, seem to have too much displacement/bump on them.

And tone down the DOF... it looks like a model

Thanks for the quick reply. That pink thing is a trash can. I didnt model anything in the scene. Every one in the challenge uses a pre made scene, modeled by one guy. Its really about the lighting (which goes hand in hand with texturing). I agree that the DOF is to much. I have only used DOF a couple of times, havent got the hang of it yet. The bottle is supposed to be the focal point of the render. I will tone down the displacement a bit, and post the results when I can.
Again, thanks for the quick reply.

      Regards,
      Mike

The textures look all a bit too big in my eyes...makes it look tiny...then i think i can recognise the texture on the table in a diff tiling on the chair-backs ? Also it looks a bit stretched in an unproportional way on the table. and the sides of the chairs look a bit odd because of the vertical wood-grains. They shouldnt be straight but rather vertical then horizontal i think.

All in all a nice mood!

P.S. in order to avoid going on your nerves i didnt complain about the DOF...damnit...did it anyways now, eh ? :P

I have to agree with Dynedain, the textures are way too big, it kind of feel like a really old toy. the mood is great!

I know that's not the purpose of the image, but the garbage can looks huge in the original image, what, at least 42''H. not really nice to have this big bucket very next to your counter/table

theblanch....I totaly agree. Unfortunately, the rules of the challenge are such that we cant change or add to the "modeling" of the scene. That way we are all on the same footing to start. Thanks for the input.

Actually the scale of the textures is not what makes it look small, it is the DOF. You have gone too far on it. Way to far. That lense is fairly wide, at that distance everything should be sharp, maybe 1 pixel of defocus in the background... maybe... even with 1.4 f-stop.

edit: forgot to comment... the lighting is great... just FYI... really ice.
